The Kifisia Children's Library SEARCH opened for the first time in November 1998 in Nea Erythrea, at Fleming 6, under the name of Nea Erythrea Children's Library. In 2010, the library was relocated to the park of Agia Matrona, at Sarafi Street 6.
It was part of the network of libraries of the Children's and Teens Libraries Organization, which was abolished in April 2014. By that time, the total number of libraries of the Organization across Greece had reached 29.
These libraries were the result of the vision of the French philhellene Annette Gruner Schlumberger. Our library has been funded by private donations since its foundation.
In March 2014, a new private organization (A.M.K.E. Non-Profit Civil Company) was established by our historical funders, ensuring the continued operation of the Library.
The Municipality of Kifisia has hosted our Library since 1998 (then as the Municipality of Nea Erythrea) and contributes to the smooth operation of the Library by contributing the premises (rent and fixed expenses). The remaining operating costs of the Library have been always covered by private donations.
